Tree Diagnostics

Many factors determine the health and safety of trees in the landscape. International and legal standards exist to determine their risk ratings. I can assess your trees for their hazard potential and help you understand what to look for. We can establish a management schedule based on your trees’ needs in order to realize their greatest health and longevity, and the safety of your property now and in the future.

Plant Health Care Prescriptions

From soil amendments to specific pest treatments, a prescription for your trees can be given to achieve optimal health.

Small Tree and Shrub Pruning

I am happy to prune your small trees or shrubs to big out their beauty and optimal health. Japanese Maples are considered some of the most intricate species in any landscape. I truly enjoy shaping them and tending them to bring out their greatest beauty and health for your property.

Soil Health and Disease Management

Many diseases can be managed by increasing biological activity and soil nutrional levels. Other diseases and insects need a more direct approach to reign in. This is a fascinating science and I would love to help you optimize your trees’ health and the health of the soil ecosystem they cultivate.

Pruning and Removal Recommendations

I can give you an unbiased opinion of any pruning or tree removals that may be needed to ensure the best conditions for your property. By assessing previous management, history of damages, and growth progression, while accounting for position on the landscape I can prescribe a physical management plan for a tree crew to enact. I will always lean towards the least management required for each situation in order to reduce the disturbance to the tree and to your budget.

Property Management Insights

Different trees have different needs and optimal conditions. Different properties have their own goals and aesthetics. I can offer planting recommendations based on goals, budget, layout, and timeline.

What To Expect

After each conversation or site visit I will provide you with a Tree Diagnostic Report that summarizes the findings and recommendations. This can include information about the tree species as well as the pests or issues that may be impacting it. Guidance will be written so all can understand it but will be concise enough to lead to effective management. If future calls or visits are recommended to track the progression this will be detailed as well.

    My Approach

I’ve found the best way to understand an issue a tree is undergoing is to know it’s individual history, the area in which it is growing, and the changes around it.  The management decisions for each tree will differ depending on these aspects as well as the future goals of the land owner.  Through discussion, observation, and assessment I will gather information about the tree and use this information to help guide next steps.

My role is to help with management decisions and answer questions.  I do not intend to be heavily involved with the physical management and will leave that to groups with better equipment and abilities in that realm.  Because of this I can offer unbiased work prescriptions that will best meet your needs and the needs of your tree.  Many times the best course of action is to do no work at all.

On site assessments are best, but I am willing to pursue virtual diagnostics as well (kind of like a teledoc).  If I feel all the relevant information can be gathered through conversation and video call / facetime and pictures I will let you know and will offer a lower price for my Tree Diagnostic Report.  If I cannot confidently answer your questions without being on site I will tell you so and we can discuss next steps from there.

    Price Structure

A virtual diagnosis will cost less than an on-site assessment.  If virtual can supply me the info I need to give a confident recommendation I will recommend this option, in order to reduce my time and your cost.  Sometimes being on site is the only way to get a good understanding, however.

The complexity of the issue will also affect the amount of work and therefore the price of the Tree Diagnostic Report.  I will gather information from our conversation and then be able to determine a price before we continue.
