What Are These Green Fuzzy Spots All Over My Tree!? Do I Have To Cut It Down?

by | Jan 21, 2023

Put the chainsaw down! Chances are you are looking at lichen. Lichen is a symbiotic growth of algae and fungus that grows on tree bark. It is completely harmless and is actually a sign of good air quality. If you don’t like the look of it, you can gently scrape it off, using caution not to damage the bark underneath. There is a good chance it will grow back however. You can think of it as a little ecosystem growing on your tree. Go ahead, it’s fuzzy, don’t worry bout it!

If you are unsure if you have lichen on your tree or are concerned it may be something else, send a message to me on the contact page.

If it’s lichen, you can breathe a sigh of relief and some good quality air. If it is something else, I can identify it for you and work towards a plan and prescription.

Remember if it’s fuzzy and green, your air is clean. Don’t worry ‘bout it!
